250 runners tried out the 1912 marathon course
On 14 July – exactly two years before the start of the Jubilee Marathon Stockholm 1912-2012 – 250 runners participated in the test run on the 1912 Olympic Marathon course. They ran 20 km from Stockholm Olympic Stadium and then northwards to the turning point at Sollentuna Church and the memorial stone for the Olympic Marathon.
Although it is almost 100 years since the Olympic Games in Stockholm, it is possible to follow almost exactly the 1912 Olympic Marathon course. – We have been preparing for the Jubilee race for over one year, but this feels like the real starting point for the Jubilee Marathon Stockholm 1912-2012, said Bengt Jansson, project leader for the race. – The test run has been an important test of the course. Now it will be easier to decide how many runners we can take for 2012. Among the leaders in Wednesday’s test run was Anders Szalkai, Sweden’s last participant in an Olympic Marathon. The Jubilee Marathon will take place on Saturday 14 July 2012 – exactly 100 years after the Olympic race in Stockholm 1912. Registration opens on 14 July 2011. Slide show trial race
